In the lead up to the event, we will be supporting you with lots of training advice and plans. So here are a few ideas to help you get running!

 

With over 200 weekly events across the UK, you are never far away from a parkrun!

Parkruns are free, weekly, timed runs which are open to everyone, safe and easy to take part in. The events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and people of every ability are encouraged to take part. If you are interested in finding out where your nearest parkrun is (we bet it’s closer than you think!) then take a look at the excellent Parkrun website where you can also sign up to run… it’s dead simple!

The Events

Each of the three events will have a different run course all of which will use the beautiful scenery around the Turton area.

 

Event 1
The 5k run will mostly be within the confines of Jumbles Country Park, The majority of the run will be on the paths surrounding the stunning reservoir  Details of the exact route including a GPS map will be posted on the site soon.

 

Event 2
The 8k run will again mostly within the confines of Jumbles Country Park.
Details of the exact route including a GPS map will be posted on this page in the autumn.

 

Event 3
The 10k run will include a lap around Entwistle Reservoir and will follow the route of the original Bolton Blast.
Details of the exact route including a GPS map will be posted on this page in the new year.

 

Training

Beginners 5k run

Click the link below to download your beginners’ 5k run training plan, written specifically for the The Bolton Blast by GB running legend Julian Goater. Julian was a member of the team that took gold medals at the World Cross Country Championships in 1979. In 1981, he won gold in the National Cross Country Championships and then placed 4th at the World Championships. His personal best for 10k is 27.34, a time which still ranks among the top 10 UK times ever.

 

He has recently published the excellent book entitled “The Art of Running Faster”.

Support

If you struggle to get out of the door and go for a run on your own, a Run together running group might be just the ticket! There are thousands of groups in England lead by qualified run leaders catering for every ability from absolute beginner to competitive club runner. The Run together website allows you to search for your nearest group, so go on, what’s stopping you?!
